For sale: 1969 Boston Whaler Menemsha in excellent condition, all original interior, custom built tandem axle trailer, and 2009 Saltwater Series 90hp E TEC with less than 150 hours, still under warranty until April 2014. I am the second owner of this Whaler. I have owned the boat for 3 years, the first year and a half was spent restoring this Menemsha. This is the second season on my E TEC. The only reason I am considering selling her is that a classic center console Boston Whaler would better suit my needs for Lake Lanier fishing, and my wife won't let me have two boats!
The work completed on the Menemsha includes: Exterior of the hull was professionally faired, primed and painted. All interior teak sanded, sealed and received 7 coats of varnish. Original red Ritchie Explorer compass and mount. Low hour (less than 150) 90 horsepower Saltwater Series E TEC. Two I-command gauges, installed, NMEA backbone, fuel flow meter, GPS puck, and 527c Lowrance all interconnected. Marine head was removed (I still have the original, with all parts) and a deep-cell battery (isolated) put in it's place with an independent 12 volt positive and negative terminal posts on starboard stern side. The original helm chair/fish locker has been modified to hold an 18 gallon fuel tank underneath, along with two cranking batteries. 3 bank Minn Kota charger located inside the helm seat storage. Original steering wheel replaced with stainless steel BW Destroyer wheel.
This is an excellent example of a rare Menemsha model (just over 200 produced) that needs absolutely nothing and is ready to turn the key and go. The 90 horsepower E TEC motor starts on the first turn of the key, every time. It is an ideal boat for inshore cruising and trolling. I have taken it to Panama City, and done well trolling for King and Spanish Mackerel. It is a very dry boat, and handles a chop better than the "normal" 16 foot Whaler due to the extra bow weight. The higher side rails and cockpit provide an added sense of security in rough conditions.
Original extras include the original Mills canvas bimini and frame, although after 40 years, it could use replacing (saved the original for a pattern). Original head, steering wheel, Red Ritchie compass, depth finder (paper graph!) all have been removed and saved. I even have some of the original paperwork and hand typed bill from Mills canvas as well as the original 1969 Whaler catalog.
This boat gets looks and compliments everywhere it goes and is truly a very unique classic Whaler. There are numerous pics and links to more pics on my personal page at: http://www.whalercentral.com/infusions/p ersonal_page/view_personal_page. php?user_id=8441 This Menemsha is located just outside Atlanta, GA.
I will be happy to answer any questions you have, feel free to email me, and leave a contact number!
1989 Boston Whaler Outrage 18'6" 2001 Yamaha 150hp HPDI 2008 Aluminum Continental Bunk Trailer (For Boston Whalers) Garmin GPS/Depth Finder Two Batteries, Perko, and Oil reservoir in the console CD Player (New antennae but not installed) VHF with new 8' antenna installed New anchor and ropes
Boat - Boat is all original except new seat cushions made to the exact specs of the originals (2011). The original owner had the boat until 2008. It was always kept in a Boat barn only used offshore in Florida. It was never even trailered until the second owner bought the boat in 2008. He brought the boat to Texas and used it offshore 5-6 times a year, always stored under cover. I bought the boat this year and took it for a few joyrides in the river before finding out I was moving for my job. Now that I am on the road, the boat does not get used and is sitting in storage in Bay City. The hull has never seen a bay, hence no scratches. It is immaculate. I started to do a little work on it this summer before I moved. I have attached a few pics to show some replacement parts I have, along with the originals.
Motor - I do not know how many hours this motor has on it but I wouldn't think many after talking to the past owner. I had two Yamaha dealers check the motor. Compression was perfect. It has started first try every time for me.
Trailer - First thing I did this summer when I bought the boat was install new hubs, wheels, and tires. I also fixed all lighting and installed a new tongue.
