You must come see it for yourself because pictures and this description cant do this whaler justice. Dick Fisher and Bob Dougherty would be proud of the diligence and modifications which have refurbished this timeless design through the advances in technology over the last 30 years.
The restoration began 12 months ago and it was my intention to restore this versatile and efficient hull to exceed its former glory and modify it to perform at 48+ mph because this was the only deficiency with this hull. Before we get into the details of this restoration I would like to reflect on the glory of this boat. I had no intention of selling this boat but working on a startup company that is still unfunded leaves me in a position where I cannot afford to finish the trim and repower this dream. I have approximately 500 hours and 2000 in products to get the hull where it is today and because it wont be mine for the next couple years this is the time to finish this boat to suite your needs wants and desires, what ever those may be. This boat has done me well in the last 3 years that I have to embellish on real quick , we had to come up with new terminology for what I was accomplishing with this versatile platform. THE LOWCOUNTRY SUPER SLAM ...Redfish, Trout, Flounder, and 8 pt buck in an afternoon...(SHE DID IT) . THE WAM BAM THANK YOU MAM LOWCOUNTRY SLAM... SC Limits of ...__ and (caught) in 24 hr... Shrimp 48 quarts (CHECK) , Redfish 3 (CHECK),Trout 10 (CHECK), Flounder 20 (17), Tarpon 1 (CHECK)... one day, this is why this boat deserved to be restored.
Now for the details of the restoration and redesign.
Under the waterline
The Restoration began by stripping the entire hull to the glass. Three stainless runners one extending from the bow to the stern down the middle and two extending eight feet from the stern and spaced four inches from the center are secured via stainless screws and a thickened resign glue. Between these outside runners and center runner for there eight ft length several coats of thickened fiberglass filler create a planning pad modeled after a fountain racing hull. The chine's were extended two feet and are flush with the transom using the same process consisting of several layers of thickened fiberglass and sanded to perfection. Why was this done? 48+ the center sponson of the whaler hull is sharp toward the bow to cut waves but round at the stern. This causes the boat to chine walk depending on water and weather conditions, calm 1-6 in ripples 42 mph range when the water is glassy and no wind with no feedback steering 48 - mid 50's the boat would become unstable. With these modifications the boat will track straighter, Lift higher, and be comfortable at high speed , this will increase fuel economy and the stainless runners will protect the hull from damage. With 5 layers of fiberglass filler and 5 layers of interlux prime coat sanded there were no imperfections under the waterline. The bottom and sides of the boat were finished by spraying 7 coats consisting of 4 quarts of VC Performance ( race boat paint) this is the only under the waterline non antifouling paint and it only comes in white. After tinkering with the blue tent on the first quart and a couple phone calls with interlux I opted to add 15 drops of blue pigment per quart which provides a blue tint in the sun but is white in the shade. In between all mentioned layers the boat was sanded to 220 grit and cleaned with interlux 216N reducer. The final coat was touched with 320, 600, 1000, and finished 3000 grit sandpaper.
Topside
`I have aspirations for re designing the topside buy I will leave that to you, so this boat fills all your wants and desires. Every screw whole and imperfection on the topside has been filled sanded then primed and sanded until it was ready for perfection. Final topside coat is 3 quarts 5 layers of interlux oyster white perfection. The vertical sides were taped off 5 times to prevent overspray of the awlgrip added to the paint for a non skid surface no matter how many fish and how much mud comes in the boat. Every layer was also sanded with 220 grit and cleaned with interlux 216N reducer. The final coat was touched with 320, 600, 1000, and finished 3000 grit sandpaper.
The rest is up to you. I have a design in my head of what I would do which would be a 32 in platform from the stern that would come to the original rear seat location, high enough to stow coolers, gas tanks, batteries, and PFD's. But this is your opportunity to finish a dream, I hope to keep in touch because I will by this boat back in a couple years.
I've had this boat for 12 years, and it's been great ! It's been sitting so had the carbs. and fuel pump rebuilt 10/11. The motor is a 1999 it has less than 150 hours ! Put in a new set of Die Hard batteries and steering cable! It has a large Bimi-Tee Top over the 33" console. The trailer I had bulit, it's a Aluminum Loadmaster, I had all stainless steel hardware where I could. This boat is 47 years old the floor is solid, but inside and out it does have stress cracks.

1970 model 16'-7" Nauset ( I believe). The engine is the original 80 HP Mercury. It runs good. The center console and seat are after market items. The original wood console and seat were missing when we purchased the boat.
Boat has been diassembled in prep for a restoration that was sidetracked by divorce. Transom was rotted at the bottom and replaced with seacast. Have a 1973 115 hp Johnson that goes with it along with trailer but trailer is toast.
